A Destination Wedding in Port Douglas
PORT DOUGLAS DESTINATION WEDDING VIDEO // CHRIS & GABRIELLE
VENUE: SUGAR WHARF
PHOTOGRAPHER: FEATHER & BIRCH
As I shivered through the coldest Melbourne May in 70 years, there were few words to describe my excitement to be escaping to Port Douglas for Chris and Gabrielle’s wedding. A week of swimming, sunsets, champagne and celebrations made for a truly unforgettable wedding experience.
ABOUT THE COUPLE
WHY DID YOU WANT TO CAPTURE YOUR WEDDING ON VIDEO?
This came from the advice of all our married friends. Those who decided to skip the video have always regretted it. We wanted something that would capture the essence of the day, which only video can. The emotion, laughter, smiles and tears.
WHY DID YOU GUYS PICK ME?
We love the way you candidly capture your couples and their guests. Our biggest fear was coming across awkwardly and cringey on camera but we never felt that way while watching your videos. You have an amazing capacity to make people feel like they have known you for ten years and immediately set people at ease with your mix of professionalism and humour.
YOU GUYS… WHAT DO YOU DO? HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR DAYS? WHAT’S IMPORTANT IN LIFE?
I (Gabby) am a doctor who finds myself often relocating to remote areas where I’m needed. Chris will describe himself as a trophy husband, but he’s a huge music lover and has spent years working for music labels and with popular Australian artists.
THE PROPOSAL… TELL ME EVERYTHING
Chris here… honestly I didn’t want to make a big public spectacle out of the proposal. Instead on Gab’s birthday, I invited her family and friends over for what she thought was a lowkey celebration so that I could ask the question in the presence of the people who mattered most to us.
THE SUGAR WHARF IN PORT DOUGLAS… WHY HERE ABOVE ANYWHERE ELSE?
Our home base is currently in southern QLD but having travelled quite a bit, we’ve got family and friends all across the country. So we figured if we were asking everyone to travel, it may aswell be to a tropical paradise. Port Douglas is usually perfect in May and the Sugar Wharf happened to be in the perfect location to where all our guest’s accomodation would be.
